Career Summary

Malcom Chapman is a dedicated community leader, as well as a professional with over 35 years of proven performance in training, teaching, marketing, sales, and service in a variety of public and private sector positions.

Mr. Chapman was elected for three terms as an Alderman for the City of Rapid City, serving in multiple leadership positions and on numerous committees.  With community participation and broad support, he has identified problems and worked toward solutions in a collaborative manner.  Mr. Chapman has represented the community well, nationally, and statewide, serving on the National League of Cities Board and committees for the South Dakota Municipal League.

Professionally

Mr. Chapman provides training in community relations support, leadership, and meeting facilitation. He is a gifted public speaker and brings an innovative and disciplined approach to building and sustaining relationships. His work provides an essential tool in achieving a strategic and competitive edge by improving individual inputs into group processes. Mr. Chapman’s draws upon his experiences as a Marine, a public speaker/facilitator, volunteer, and elected official to help find solutions to complex issues.  

As the founder and owner of the Chapman Group, an organizational communications-consulting business, Malcom designs and facilitates retreats, participates in vision and strategic planning, conducts coaching sessions, and delivers keynote addresses. His mission is “to convene individuals and groups of people in authentic, honest, and respectful conversations across difference.”  His work is done in both the public and private sectors and across all generational spectrums. Over the past six years he has co-created and co-facilitated community engagements both in the public and private sector with Pamela Teaney Thomas.

As a Community Leader, Mr. Chapman has been an avid supporter of community leadership development, lending support to Leadership Rapid City through presentations and recruiting participants. He is a graduate of the program and past Board Member. He is a past Board Member of United Way and served as the Campaign Chair in 2006, which raised $2,092,793 for local agencies.  Mr. Chapman served on the Rapid City Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and was a past President of the Rapid City Library Foundation. He also teaches/mentors through Junior Achievement and is an active member with Calvary Lutheran Church.

As a combat arms Marine Corps Officer, Mr. Chapman honed his skills in training. He led up to 45 personnel, conducted training, developed policies and procedures, and evaluated performance.
